Omnipotence

  1. The doctrine of God's omnipotence has two distinct interpretations that can cause much confusion if they are not understood. The first interpretation of  God's omnipotence is that God can do anything without any restriction. The second is that God's omnipotence is only one of the many attributes of God and therefore God can only do anything within the restrictions of His other attributes. An example that can help explain the different interpretations is found in the often asked question "Can God make a square circle?". Holders of the first interpretation of God's omnipotence would say "yes'" while holders of the second interpretation of God's omnipotence would say "no" because it would contradict God's attribute of being the Logos. The Bible takes the second interpretation of God's omnipotence as it tells us that there are things that God can not do. For example, Titus 1:2 tells us that God can not lie. If God could lie than it would contradict His attribute of being Truth. (7/26/13)

Obsession

  1. The problem with people who suffer from an obsession is not the having an obsession itself. We become obsessed because we were made to become obsessed. The problem with people who suffer from an obsession is that they became obsessed with the wrong thing. (6/6/13)
  2. Many of the problems that people suffer from are really just obsessions in the wrong things:(6/6/13)
    1. Drug addiction- obsession in using drugs (6/6/13)
    2. .Alcoholisms- obsession in drinking alcohol. (6/6/13)

Faith

  1. "In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don't.” - Blaise Pascal (5/9/13)
  2. All knowledge is ultimately based on faith. The scientist bases his knowledge on observation, however before he can base his knowledge on observation he must have faith that his observations are real. He can not observe that his observations are real; that would be circular reasoning. The mathematician bases her knowledge on logic, however before she can base her knowledge on logic she must have faith that logic is true. She can not prove logic is true using logic; that would be circular reasoning. (6/4/13)

    1. My interpretation of Mr. Camping's statement is "Me interpreting the Bible by myself is the Bible interpreting itself" (5/2/13)
    2. The strange thing is that all the people who say "The Bible is its own interpreter" seem to come up with different interpretations. (5/2/13)
    3. For example R. C. Sproul and Joel Osteen have just about as far apart interpretations of the Bible as you can get but the both say "The Bible is its own interpreter." (5/2/13)
    4. You can not argue with these types of people about what the Bible says because after all your interpretation is just your interpretation but their interpretation is the Bible interpreting itself. (5/2/13)

Deathbed Conversions

  1. "Though there be such things as deathbed conversions, nevertheless as the tree falls, there it lies. One man who led an evil life always boasted of the fact that he needed never worry about his soul when time would end, for he could save it with three words which he quoted in Latin: "Miserere mei Deus" [-- God have mercy, on me]. He was right about saying three words at the moment of his death, but they were not the words he expected to say, for his life had not been lived as to pronounce them from his heart. As his horse threw him over the cliff he said: "Capiat omnia biabolus," which means, 'I'll be damned." -Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen (On Being Human) (4/25/13)
