Character
- "Character is a slowly forming thing. You can no more force character on someone than you can force a tree to produce fruit when it isn't ready to do so. The person has to choose, again and again, to develop the moral muscles and skills which will shape and form the fully flourishing character." - N.T. Wright, After You Believe (1/3/12)
- “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved.” -Helen Keller (11/25/12)

Homosexual
- General and LGBT-specific risk factors both uniquely contribute to likelihood of suicidal ideation and self-harm in LGBT youth, which may, in part, account for the higher risk of these phenomena observed in this population.( American Journal of Preventive Medicine Volume 42, Issue 3 , Pages 221-228, March 2012, 3/3/12)
- Catholic teaching
- "The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition." (CCC 2358 3/12/12)
- “Sexual relations between people of the same sex can be alluring for homosexuals but it deviates from the true meaning of the act and distracts them from the true nature of love to which God has called us all. For this reason, it is sinful,” --Bishop Jaime Soto
- "The human person, made in the image and likeness of God, can hardly be adequately described by a reductionist reference to his or her sexual orientation. ...Today, the Church provides a badly needed context for the care of the human person when she refuses to consider the person as a "heterosexual" or a "homosexual" and insists that every person has a fundamental Identity: the creature of God, and by grace, his child and heir to eternal life." - Blessed John Paul II. Pelagianism
"It is the belief that original sin did not taint human natureand that mortal will is still capable of choosing good or evil without special Divine aid." -Wikipedia
I accept the first part. I believe that our own sin taints our own nature totally, not just causing guilt and shame but also affecting our emotions, intellect and will. But I do not believe the sin of another, even our ancestor, taints our nature if that is what is meant by original sin. That still seems inherently unjust to me. I, however, reject the second half as humans can not do any thing include exist without special divine aid. Anti-Paganism and the doctrine of Original Sin as they understand comes from a misinteriptation of the story of Adam and Eve as history rather than as myth as it was intended. The ancients all understood the story of Adam and Eve as a myth. When the Bible speaks of our we sin in Adam, it referring to the story of Adam and Eve as a myth is repeated in our live as is the nature of a myths.

Ignorance

Work
- "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." --- Confucius
- The chief advantage of work is it keeps one from being self-absorbed. (1/11/12)
- "It doesn't matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that's like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching, he said. The lawn-cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime." — Ray Bradbury (Fahrenheit 451)
- Adam and Eve went from to garners to tellers of the soil after the fall.
- The more one works, the more willing one is to work. -Lord Chesterfield (8/4/11)
Thinking

Law

Adventure
- "An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered." -G. K. Chesterton (11/15/12)
- The only people who want more adventure in their life are those who never had a real adventure or are adrenaline addicts.
Extramarital Sex
- "Having sex with someone who isn’t our spouse can have a real, measurable and harmful impact upon later relationships." FOCUSinsights (6/29/13)
- Why is there so much surprise about someone who engages in extramarital sex before marriage engaging in extramarital sex after marriage? (7/24/11)
Premarital Sex
The term "premarital sex" is a misnomer. It euphemistically implies having sex with someone before marrying them, however, more often than not those who have "premarital sex" never wind up marrying those with whom they have it. The other problem is that the opposite of premarital sex would seem to be postmarital sex but not all postmarital sex is good. If man has sex with his mistress after marrying his wife, he could be said to be having postmarital sex. I, therefore, prefer the term extramarital sex.
Gnosticism

- "… sex is my business because sex can lead to babies, and the society that Roxanne and I share has a best did interest in the defining and maintaining the family structures that care for babies." Real Sex, p. 49
- "Emotional closeness during sex was associated with more frequent arousal, lubrication, and orgasm; estrogen therapy was not." (1/2/12)
Chastity
"...chastity like most aspects of Christian life does not come naturally..." Real Sex, page 22
Hate
- Hate is not the opposite of love. Hate is a part of love. If you love something you will hate whatever stands between you and what you love. If a woman is in love with a married man she will hate his wife. If you love the truth, you will hate dishonesty. If you love God, you will hate sin. If you love justice, you will hate injustice. The only way not to hate is not to love. You can tell what you love by what you hate. (5/12/13)

Family
- "God in His deepest mystery is not a solitude, but a family, since he has in Himself fatherhood, sonship, and the essence of the family, which is love."-John Paul II (7/24/11)
- Meals
- "Studies have shown that family meals have a positive effect on children, especially adolescents. Children who eat with their families more than five times a week do better in school, have higher self-esteem, and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. Researchers believe this is due to the emotional bond formed during meals. Something about being around the table helps children make life-affirming choices." (Becky Warren, 2/15/12)

(7/27/11) The national debt is like a credit card that we spend on wasteful things and that our children will be forced to pay the interest on for the rest of their lives. To me raising the debt ceiling is just plain immoral.

Socialism
- “Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all." -Frederic Bastiat (3/22/12)

Life
Some tell us to live every day as if it where our last. I say live each day as if yesterday where your last, that live as if you where already dead. In death our soul will leave our body and we will have no use for and therefor no concern for physical things. The only thing that will matter in death is spiritual things and we shall therefor seek spiritual things now.

Holy

Myth
- The ancient Greeks had two ways of knowing and describing things thing called mythos and logos. Logos has to do with logic and analytic whys of knowledge. Mythos describes things that cannot be described by logos. Its stories may or may not have actually happened in history but its real meaning is in explaining repetive events that happens to all of us. They describes deep psychological characteristics which is why the writings of Jung and May are full of examples from mythology. They are associated with rituals.
- “For most modern critics a myth is merely another word for a lie or a falsehood, something which is intrinsically not true. For Tolkien, myth had virtually the opposite meaning. It was the only way that certain transcendent truths could be expressed in intelligible form. One has to understand this to understand Tolkien. It is hoped that this volume will go some way to removing the falsehoods and revealing the myth.” —Joseph Pearce (12/6/12)

Atheism
All atheists are fundamentalist, because atheist have nothing beyond the fundamental belief that there is no god to go to.
(7/20/11) For the most part I agree with atheist in that I do not believe in the god that they do not believe in.
(7/20/11) For the most part I agree with atheist in that I do not believe in the god that they do not believe in.
Fundamentalist
The word "fundamentalist" contains the word "fundamental" as its root. A fundamentalist can therefor be defined as one who stresses the fundamentals. Not only religions, but all fields have certain beleifs and practices that are fundamental to them and therefor have potential fundamentalist. The word "fundamentalist" has recently received a negative connotation but being a fundamentalist is not inherently bad. In fact, being a fundamentalist can be a good thing. Whenever we start anything we should start by learning the fundamentals. My high school football coach was a fundamentalist. He believed the fundamentals of football where blocking and tackling and he did not let us start scrimmages until we mastered the fundamentals. In order to master a given field we must practice the fundamentals until they become a part of who we are as they are engraved on our neuronal circuits. There is nothing more beautiful than watching a dancer, who has mastered the fundamentals of a style of dance, let go with reckless abandon and let the fundamentals she has taken years to instill take over.
There are, however, potential problems with being a fundamentalist. One is they can become stuck on the fundamentals and refuse to grow beyond them. For example, a pianist who continues to play the same scales over and over again and refuses to play any music even after mastering the scales.
Another problem is choosing the wrong fundamentals. The essential nature of any group of fundamentalist is dependent on the fundamentals they chose. If they chose love and peace than they will become a more loving and peaceful group the more radical fundamentalists they become. Take for example the Amish. They are certainly as an extreme a group of fundamentalist as you can get, but when their young children where raped and killed, they not only forgave their killer but took up a collection for his family. This is because one of their Christian fundamentals is forgiveness. The opposite, however, would happen for a group that had the opposite fundamentals. Some people support their bigoted view against all fundamentalist based on some fundamentalist groups that seem to have made hate and revenge their fundamentals.

The Self
There are three selves in each of us:
- The essential self- This is the good person we where created as and intended by our creator to become. It is the self should strive to know and become in being true to our self. This is the self reffed in the parable of the Prodigal Son when it says that he "came to himself." It was created by God to love and be loved by and receives its identity from God alone.
- The existential self- This is us as we actually are and which has fallen short of the essential self to various degrees by loving Gods good gifts more than God. The existential self receives its identity from all these things that it loves more than God.
- The false self- This is a false representation of our self that we create and try to convince others that we are and may even convince ourselves that we are. The False self helps us deal with the guilt and shame that is caused by the existential self failing to live up to being the essential self. It consist of the hypocrisy and lies we tell others andourself and even God. The farther the existential self from the essential self the farther the existential self from the false self. The false self can not only cause us to lose sight of the existential self but also the essential self. When we have lost sight of the essential self than we are hopelessly lost without God. When the false self loses sight of the essential self than it tries to find itself by comparing itself to others interms of the false gods the existential self created. For example the false self may say it is rich or poor, fat or thin etc. In comparing itself to others it tries to make others look worse to make itself look better. The false self in being a false entity does not have a true identity.
Beauty
- “The Beautiful is that which gives joy, not all joy, but joy in knowing; not the joy proper to the act of knowing, but a joy abounding and overflowing from this act because of the object known. If a thing uplifts and delights the Soul by the very fact of being granted to its intuition, it is good to lay hold of, it is beautiful.” -Jacques Maritain (12/13/12)
- Beauty is complexity expressed in its simplest form.
- Rule # 61: Initially there is a superficial form of love that loves because it perceives beauty, but with hope true love develops and perceives beauty because it loves. (FB 8/18/12)
- Truth is like beauty. You know it when you see it. (6/12)
- "To love beauty is to see light." - Les Misérables (11/14/12)

Addiction
An addiction is when a habit causes you to lose your free will over a certain aspect of your life.

(7/27/11) "We know that 40 percent of a predisposition to addiction is genetically determined, via studies on heritability in families and twins."
Codependency
Codependency is being addicted to another person.
Original Sin
I believe the the doctrine of original sin can be summed up in the following three words:
"All have sinned"
Revalation
God reveals Himself to us in the following in order of increasing authority:
- All of nature
- The church
- The Bible
- Jesus Christ
God is logical and His revelation does not contain contradictions. We must internet Gods revaluations so there are no contradictions.
Bible
- "If you believe what you like in the Gospel, and reject what you don't like, it is not the Gospel you believe, but yourself." — St. Augustine of Hippo
- I would say that If you believe what you like in Bible and reject what you don't like, it is not God you believe in but yourself. You have made yourself the ultimate authority and therefor have put yourself above God. Your god is not the God of the Bible but you have made yourself your god.

Free Will
- Free will is like a conscience in that if you have it you can not doubt its existence. (1/30/13)
- If you don't believe in free will than you believe that you have no choice in what you believe, but if you are forced to believe what you believe then why believe it? (7/6/11)

- Free will versus Predestination
- The history of intellectual disputes are often posed as this versus that. For example nature versus nurture or weight versus particle. Both sides present evidence for their position. History shows that the final outcome is not either one side but both. This is the case for Faith versus predisposition. It is not a more predisposition but both legs and predisposition.there are some things that are pre-destined and there are other things that are of our own free will choose.

War is a way of shattering to pieces, or pouring into the stratosphere, or sinking in the depths of the sea, materials which might otherwise be used to make the masses too comfortable, and hence, in the long run, too intelligent.” - George Orwell in "1984"
