Asprin

  1. "Despite important reductions in nonfatal MI [myocardial infarction] [10%], aspirin prophylaxis in people without prior CVD [cardiovascular disease] does not lead to reductions in either cardiovascular death or cancer mortality. Because the benefits are further offset by clinically important bleeding events, routine use of aspirin for primary prevention is not warranted and treatment decisions need to be considered on a case-by-case basis." ( Arch Intern Med. 2012;172(3):209-216, 2/15/12)
  2. "Allocation to aspirin reduced cancer deaths (562 vs 664 deaths; odds ratio [OR] 0·85...resulting in fewer non-vascular deaths overall (1021 vs 1173; OR 0·88" (The Lancet, 3/21/12)
  3. "After adjustment for age, sex, smoking, history of cardiovascular disease, systolic blood pressure, and body mass index, persons who were regular aspirin users had a higher risk of developing neovascular AMD [age-related macular degeneration] (odds ratio [OR], 2.46; 95% CI, 1.25-4.83)" (JAMA Intern Med. 2013;():1-7. doi:10.1001/jamainternmed.2013.1583, 1/22/13)
